Why Attic Ventilation Matters for Calgary Roofs
A balanced ventilation system has equal intake (soffit vents) and exhaust (ridge or roof vents). Most older Calgary homes are under-ventilated.
In winter, ventilation keeps the attic cold enough to prevent ice dams. In summer, it stops heat buildup that bakes shingles from below — cutting their lifespan by years. At Calgary's high elevation and intense summer sun, this matters even more.
Common issues: insulation blocking soffit vents, mixing vent types (e.g., ridge + box vents short-circuit each other), and undersized vent area.
A quick roof inspection can identify ventilation problems and recommend low-cost fixes.
